Topic 2: Marketing in the news.

Popular Fox news host Bill O'Reilly has created controversy (yet again) with the claims from five women (and the settlement of some of those claims) of sexual harassment. Mr O'Reilly has settled with at least 5 women for something like $13 million.

Fox has spent most of the last year trying to move past the the sexual harassment scandal involving founding chairman Roger Ailes (who was dismissed by Fox news last year). At least 3 of Fox women employees have expressed concern about fox new's commitment to maintain a work environment "based on trust and respect".

Following a New York Times investigation it has come to light that there have been multiple settlements over allegations of "sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior" by Mr O'Reilly. In light of this several major companies are withdrawing their ads for "The O'Reilly Factor", a very popular Fox news program.

The O'Reilly Factor has generates more than $100 million a year in advertising revenue for Fox. Among the companies pulling their ads from Mr. O'Reilly's show are: Mercedes-Benz, BMW of North America, Subaru, Lexus, Bayer, GlaxsoSmithKline, Orkin, Coldwell Banker, Allstate, and esurance.

Bill O"Reilly has been a cable news icon and a media mogul for many years. And has one of the most loyal viewer basses of any cable news program. It may come as no surprise that one of those loyal followers is President Donald Trump. It may be a little telling that when President Trump was asked about Mr O"Reilly's current predicament. Mr Trump said he didn't think that Mr O"Reilly had done anything wrong and feels "he shouldn't have settled" any of the cases where he was accused of sexual harassment.

While the accusations may not hurt Fox News Channel's ratings, or its bottom line now, it could have a bigger impact in the future. If new advertisers don't show up or enough of the old ones return (after the controversy dies down) there may be a more significant impact to the bottom line in the future.
